About the Founder

Steve Dalton

I have always been obsessed with how some people naturally form bonds with others.

I was never one of those people.

Because relationship-building has never come intuitively to me, I've spent decades creating a process where I and anyone else—regardless of natural ability—could do so. This led me to publish my first book, The 2-Hour Job Search (Penguin Random House, 2012), for which a revised edition was released in 2020. I released my follow-up, The Job Closer, in 2021.

In essence, I teach people of all dispositions and abilities to authentically turn strangers into advocates on demand. The fact that it did not come naturally to me is what makes it possible for me to teach this skill to others using frameworks (which are replicable) rather than tips (which are not).

I have been helping people turn strangers into advocates since 2005, when I first joined the Career Management Center at Duke’s business school. Prior to joining Duke, I was a chemical engineer at Gojo Industries, a strategy consultant at A.T. Kearney, and a marketer at General Mills. My passion is helping others turn strangers into advocates—especially those who have never been naturally charismatic or charming—since everyone must be able to do so in order to provide for themselves and their loved ones.
